Snacks at the Academy
Snack is served each day to both the Downstairs and the Upstairs students. Typically the children are offered apple juice or water, graham crackers and pretzels. It is important that you inform the Academy of all food allergies as we do occasionally offer other choices.
Sending Snacks in to School
At times during the school year, you may offer to contribute a snack to mark a special occasion such as a performance, holiday or your child’s birthday. We have students at the Academy with life-threatening allergies to PEANUTS and all PEANUT PRODUCTS. These students must avoid these foods and foods containing these substances. Please do not bring in any treats on any occasion that contain any of the following ingredients:
- PEANUT OIL
- GROUND NUTS
- MIXED NUTS NUTS
- NU-NUTS FLAVORED NUTS
- PEANUT BUTTER
- PEANUT FLOUR
- M & Ms (PLAIN OR PEANUT)
- CHOCOLATE CANDIES AND CANDY BARS
- HYDROLYZED PLANT PROTEIN
- HYDROLYZED VEGETABLE PROTEIN
- AFRICAN, CHINESE AND THAI DISHES
- EGG ROLLS
Please be sure to read labels!
We will not use products that have the label “May contain traces of tree nuts or peanuts.”
Some safe snack possibilities include goldfish crackers, bear shaped graham cookies, and fruit such as apple slices. The upstairs children enjoy grapes and carrot sticks.

We appreciate your attention to this important matter. With your help all the children can enjoy a healthy school year. If you have any questions, please the Academy office at 708-848-2329.
We are happy to help celebrate your child’s special day. We do ask that you call the office beforehand to make the arrangements. Many families choose to mark six month birthdays for those children who have summer birthdays. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for guidelines and suggestions for both Downstairs and Upstairs celebrations.
